Letter from the President

At the beginning of each year I spend some time praying and asking God for a word for the year. The word serves as a guide, a challenge, encouragement and basically a theme. The word I was given this year was the word LOVE. What a great word. I was very excited!

Since the beginning of this year I have worked at getting the word love up in each of the rooms in my home.  Many many times as I sit in meetings or with people love has come up and been the topic and driving force. Real success and wealth is true love…God’s love. I want to challenge you this year to seek God on a word from Him just for you. It is exciting and very special. You will learn a lot about yourself and definitely grow. A dear friend of mine says…Be the love that you are wherever you are! I love you all.

Building Update

Things are moving right along with the Shelter From The Storm Ministries, Inc building project. We have a new roof and our partitions are up. The HVAC is being worked on as we speak and all of the concrete has been taken up and out of the building. US Cellular is sponsoring our playground equipment and we are putting finishing touches on storage sheds, gardening and landscaping plans. Thank you to all who are praying for this project, volunteering and giving of their services and funds.

We could not do this without you! We still have plenty of opportunities to volunteer so don't be afraid to come out and roll up your sleeves and get to work. See you at the building!

Volunteer Corner

First of all, I just want to say thank-you to everyone who has volunteered to help us whether it was doing fundraising or working a few hours helping us demo our facility! We can’t thank you enough and we want you to know that we are praying for you weekly.

We have an abundance of opportunities coming up that we need your help with. The first opportunity we have is the weekend of Sun Prairie’s city wide garage sale. We will be setting up in the parking lot of Living Hope Fellowship Church located at 411 N Thompson Rd, Sun Prairie, WI 53590. You can see our specific needs and sign-up here:

The next opportunity we have for volunteers is at our annual Praise in the Prairie event held in Angell Park on Saturday June 4th. We are going to need 250+ individuals to help us with this amazing, family friendly event. If you are a leader of a group (i.e.: girl scouts, boy scouts, swim teams, football teams, etc.) please contact Teresa Buechner at to get more details and to be considered. Please watch your email inbox for more specific details to come.

Finally, if you haven’t “liked” us on Facebook please do so. We do our best to communicate with all of you on a regular basis but have found that social media is a quick way to get last minute information out to all of you. You can find our page here:

We have a big, big, big event happening really soon! Yep, that’s right BIG!

Praise in the Prairie

My name is Laura Sargent, I’m the Vendor Coordinator for Praise in the Prairie. My husband, Bob and I have volunteered for this event each year. We see the value of bringing the community together for a purpose much greater than ourselves through ordinary people. We want to make a difference in our community for Christ Jesus. Bob and I have lived in Sun Prairie for 15 years. For over 25 years, we have served in the ministry and served our local church because we believe we are called to serve. Together we can make an extra ordinary difference for woman and children in Sun Prairie.

Please contact me if you or someone you know would like to be a vendor for this worthy event. You can email me at or call me at 608-712-0041. Together we can make a difference. Thank you.

Dine for Shelter

Have you attended a Dine for Shelter event yet? Come out and join us at Burrachos Fresh Mexican Grill on April 21st at 2691 Windsor St. in Sun Prairie. Burrachos has a great menu of Mexican food where you can specialize your order, watch them make it right in front of you, and it’s made with only the freshest ingredients. Go for dinner, lunch, or both and invite your friends and co-workers.

You can find out more about them and see their menu at A big thank you to Burrachos for hosting this event and don’t forget that 15% of all food sales will be donated to Shelter from the Storm Ministries!

Garage Sale

It’s that time of year for GARAGE SALES! Have something you’ve been holding on to that you need to get rid of and can help us raise money? We are in need of items to sell at the Sun Prairie City Wide Garage Sale. We will be accepting items at the Living Hope Fellowship Church parking lot (by Royal Oaks) at 411 N. Thompson Road in Sun Prairie on April 28th starting at 4:00 PM. Please bring your items marked with a sale price to make the set-up quick and easy. We will be open starting at 7:00 AM on Friday the 29th and Saturday the 30th selling garage sale items, cookies, bars, and brats. You can volunteer to work, provide baked goods, buns, or water. All proceeds will go to support our new shelter. If you have any questions you can contact Michelle Hanley at Thank you!

From the Design Team

Yay God!! We are so excited to say that we have been blessed with an amazing group of ladies! Each with a beautiful desire in their heart to make Shelter a place of beauty and comfort for the mothers and children that will call Shelter “home” as they begin a new season of living the life God intended for them.

Prayer for the team: They wear many hats! That their homes and families be protected as they offer their time and energy planning for Shelter’s decor.

Prayer for the companies that have offered to help Shelter in furnishing the home. That the generosity of these companies be blessed beyond measure!

Prayer for focus and direction.  Our intention, as a team, is to make this a welcoming environment as well as organized and purposeful. That God direct each decision that is made.

From the Accountant

Your generosity continues to make us smile as we are off to a great start this year in the finance department. We raised an amazing $17,000 for our first annual Gala for Shelter! Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and participated and for an amazing job by the Gala Committee and Buck & Honey’s. Please know that your contributions are being put to good use as we prepare the new shelter.

And thank you to all of our Dine for Shelter restaurants; Willie Ty’s Eatery, Eddie’s Alehouse & Eatery, and The Lost Court at Prairie Athletic Club and everyone who came out to dine. A special thank you to Jenny Simon at PAC who donated 100% of the food sales on March 17th. We had a huge turnout at the Round Table as they helped us raise money with the Fish Fry for Shelter. We are so thankful to the Knights of Columbus and all our friends who came out to support us. Many thanks to the Sun Prairie Storm Swim Team for volunteering that night! The dining event funds will help us pay the utility bills at the shelter.

There will be many opportunities this year to help support our ministry which makes you an important part of this project and community. Find a place where you feel led to help by volunteering, attending an event, donating an item or your services, or make a monetary donation. You can donate through our web site or mail a check to SFTSM P.O. Box 152 Sun Prairie, WI 53590.

Thank you for being part of this huge blessing to our community, we can’t do it without you!
