SHELTER FROM THE STORM MINISTRIES

Hearing God’s Voice

Often times I am in settings when different people talk about "God speaking to them", or “God told me", or “God put on my heart…” and I wonder what others think when those statements are made.  I find myself in situations where I need to hear God’s direction and I struggle because my head is so busy and full of “stuff” that I cannot seem to hear the things God may be trying to tell me.

God speaks to us in many ways.  He speaks to us through His Word all the time.  I can’t tell you how many times I have been dealing with an issue or question and God brings to my attention a scripture or a song singing scripture that totally speaks to my situation.  He uses devotionals, books, people and messages at church to name a few more ways to communicate to us. The most challenging part of hearing God’s voice is quieting ourselves to a place where we can hear that “still small voice”  of Holy Spirit who wants to share so much with us.  I find myself often doing all of the talking and very little listening.  Job 33:33 NIV says, “Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.”  Any of us can easily replace Job’s name with our own.

If you get a chance please read 1 Kings 19, it is about the prophet Elijah.  Elijah has just had a great victory in the Lord and out of exhaustion and hunger fear sets in and Elijah runs to a place that God did not tell him to go.  God meets Elijah where he has run to and speaks to him in a ”still small voice” among wind, earthquakes, and fire.

I encourage myself first and then encourage you to quiet yourselves, be silent and let God speak to you each day.  It isn’t always easy to do as our world has a lot of noise in it, but it is truly worth the time spent with God.  Schedule your quiet time with God each day, preferably first thing in the morning before you get too bogged down with the days activities.  How awesome is it that the Kings of Kings wants to share great and mighty things with us that we do not know!

Love you!

Our Savior's Lutheran Work Day!

Our Savior's Lutheran Church choose SFTSM as a work site for their "God's Work, Our Hands" initiative.  Members of their church came out and helped install a fence around the playground (playground was donated by US Cellular).  They also helped vacuum out the building and wrote scripture on the studs.  Thank you Our Savior's!

From the Finance Manager

Please consider SFTSM as you plan your year-end giving. You can also sign up for a monthly donation.  These offerings can be set up via our website http://sftsm.org/donate/. I am personally proud to be part of this project and know that my monthly offering and financial support ensures that our Sun Prairie community can help care for some of the 137 homeless children registered in our school district. If you have any questions, if you (or your business) would like take a tour of the shelter or even if you would like us to visit your home or business to find out more about what we do, please send me an email hanleymichelle0@gmail.com or call 608-516-8023.

We are getting so close to opening our doors and we need that last financial push.  Please help us so we can start helping moms and their kids! Many thanks!

Sign-up Genius List of Needs

As we get closer to the building being finished we have a list of needs and we could use your help. Our Building Hope Capital Campaign continues and we have put together a Sign Up Genius needs list. Many of our current needs are big ticket items, so gather your business, family or church group together to donate as a group!  If we all do a little, it can turn into a lot, like kindness and compassion for families who need shelter, guidance, and a little help to get back on their feet.
